Rick Thorne

I've been blessed to [have found] what I like at the age of 12. I found something that made me feel alive and stoked and I can truly say bike riding has saved my life and continues to. See, when I started riding it was totally for the way it made me feel. Before riding, I really didn't feel too alive or stoked on anything. I was searching and somehow ended up on a bike. Growing up with a lot of problems, like anger, doubt, fear and negative thoughts, I needed something. My parents got divorced when I was around 6 or 7 [years old]. I really don't remember. But I do remember wanting my dad back. That never happened and my family values went out the door with him. Times were tough, straight up.
I was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri in a lower middle class family trying to survive the only way we knew how. I remember shoveling snow on days off of school to help buy food. My mother always worked – she worked hard in a factory. I respect her [because] she never gave up and I learned from her to be a hard worker and sweat it out. Money can't buy attitude – that's for sure. I'm not from money. I've worked hard for the things I own. People only see me [as I am] now, but have no idea how hard things have been for me to get here.
